What does privacy mean in the public context? What happens when we consider our privacy, security, and safety as shared and public concerns? How do the stakes and the remedies change if we address digital privacy as communities, instead of as individuals?

To interrogate these issues, nine library branches — three from each of the city’s library systems — will host a distributed exhibition of site-specific artworks exploring issues related to digital risk and privacy.*

Join us tonight for a preview of the exhibit with artists Tega Brain, Sam Lavigne, and Toisha Tucker and curators Greta Byrum, Davis Anderson, and Shannon Mattern. They’ll discuss their contributions to this exhibit and share their responses to the pressing issues related to life in a data-rich society.

This event is one of many being offered as part of Library Privacy Week. Library Privacy Week is brought to you by NYC Digital Safety: Privacy & Security, a new initiative to bring resources covering digital privacy and data security to the City’s frontline public library staff. With support from the City of New York Mayor’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer, the project will ensure that NYC residents can rely on public libraries for their questions about internet privacy and security.

*Artists include American Artist, Salome Asega, Tega Brain, Ingrid Burrington, Taeyoon Choi, Annabel Daou, Alejandra Delfin, Sam Lavigne, Mimi Onuoha, and Toisha Tucker
